Product Description

Packaging fulfils the diverse role of protecting products, preventing spoilage, contamination, extending shelf life, ensuring safe storage thereby helping to make them readily available to consumers.

Polypropylene (PP) woven sacks are sacks made from polypropylene (PP) granules. Polypropylene (PP) sacks have an edge over the conventional jute sacks in the sense that the former are light in weight, strong and attractive.

These sacks are immune to the effect of corrosion, decay, moisture, atmosphere, rats, rodents, moths and insects. Being superior in quality and economic as compared to the traditional jute material, these modern sacks have gradually captured a large market for packing fertilizers, chemicals, food stuff s , animal foods, oil cakes etc.

The woven sacks industry is the single largest polypropylene (PP) granules consuming sector in Nigeria. Other raw material used in the production polypropylene (PP) woven sacks are calcium carbonate, master batch, yarn and ink.

The proposed plant would operate at 90% of the installed capacity working double shifts of twelve {12} hours each in 300 day per annum. The plant would produce 515 mm width *560 mm breadth woven bag of 80 g weigh.

Extensive market research has revealed that Polypropylene (PP) woven sacks is an everyday consumer goods in Nigeria. The market for Polypropylene (PP) woven sacks in Nigeria is national. With a population of over 165 million people and an estimated national population growth rate of 5.7% per annum ,an average economic growth rate of 3.5% per annum in the past five {5} years, Nigeria has a large market for PP woven sack.

Presently, over 350 companies are operating in the plastic sub-sector in Nigeria, with Eleme Petrochemicals Company (EPCL) being the largest and sole producer of the major industrial polymers, polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP). This indeed is a significant contributor to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) which needs protection from foreign competition.

Survey reports local polypropylene consumption figures of 16,179 tons/month, excluding imports. Whereas monthly production figures from EPCL is 5,500 – 6,000 tons/month for polypropylene.

This feasibility report seeks to examine the financial viability or otherwise of establishing a polypropylene (PP) woven sack production plant in Nigeria.
